Winstar Slot Review
Winstar is a stripped-back space-themed slot released by Blueprint in 2016. The game is part of the Jackpot King progressive network, which offers the chance to win one of three jackpots on every spin. Mystery symbols transform into new identical symbols, creating extra opportunities to form line wins before the end of the round. I’ll cover these features in more detail in this Winstar slot review.
Blueprint is a multi-platform iGaming developer headquartered in Newark, Nottinghamshire. UK players are likely to recognise fan-favourite slots such as Fishin’ Frenzy and Eye of Horus, which are available online and in over 100,000 slot cabinets across the UK and Europe.

Winstar Gameplay
Winstar’s gameplay is straightforward to follow, making it a great choice for beginners or those looking to explore progressive jackpot slots. Since there are only ten paylines, I was able to quickly identify wins as they formed. This isn’t possible for slots with more complex mechanics such as Megaways engines.
The slot’s simplicity complements its medium-variance gameplay, which combine to create relatively steady, easygoing sessions.
The minimum betting threshold is £0.10, which is typical of UK slots. Under UKGC regulations, all slots are required to enforce age-based maximum stake limits. Players aged 18–24 can bet up to £2 per round, which is raised to £5 for those aged 25 and above.
Wins are multiplied by the line bet, which is your spin value divided by 10 (the number of paylines). For example, if you landed a full grid of silver stars on a £1 bet, the 10,000x multiplier would translate into a £1,000 payout. Here’s how other line wins would pay out on a £1 bet:
| Symbol | Full grid | 5-of-a-kind | 4-of-a-kind | 3-of-a-kind |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Silver star | £1,000 | £100 | £20 | £10 |
| Red star | N/A | £50 | £10 | £7 |
| Blue star | N/A | £40 | £8 | £5 |
| Green star, A | N/A | £20 | £5 | £2 |
| K, Q | N/A | £15 | £2.5 | £1 |
| J, 10 | N/A | £10 | £2 | £1 |
There’s a significant jump from the highest to the lowest line wins. Nonetheless, all payouts feel significant since no combination pays out less than the value of your stake.
While line wins can offer significant payouts, the biggest payouts come from the progressive jackpot feature, Jackpot King. I'll cover this in more detail later on in this Winstar slot review.
Theme and Story of the Winstar Slot
Winstar’s retrofuturistic feel sets it apart from other space-themed slots. This is thanks to its bright, simple design, synth sound effects and straightforward gameplay. There’s not much in the way of narrative, which allows the gameplay to take centre stage.
Silver stars pay out the highest; landing a full grid will pay out the highest single-line win (1,000x your stake value). Red and blue stars are the second strongest symbols, followed by green stars and aces, then other royals.

Graphics, Sounds and Vibes
Winstar’s design and animations are simple yet impactful. The vibrant colours, gradients and cosmic backdrop create the fun, nostalgic feel of classic casino cabinets.
While many prefer to play slots on mute (especially gamers playing on the go), I was disappointed that there’s no backing music. When you open the slot, a funky synth track plays while you read the rules, which would work well as a soundtrack for the rest of the game. A synth beat plays each time you press the ‘Spin’ button, which makes the lack of music less noticeable.
The Mystery symbols are animated and have their own sound effects, which creates a sense of suspense while you wait for the tiles to be revealed.

Given that Winstar is almost 10 years old, I’m not surprised that it’s showing some signs of age. While the graphics aren’t as flashy as I’ve seen in more recent Blueprint slots, I was pleased to see that the animation quality is up to the same standard.
Winstar Slot on Mobile
All Blueprint games run on HTML5, which ensures cross-compatibility so players can expect the same standard of gameplay across desktop, mobile and tablet devices. The game runs exactly the same whether you prefer to play via your mobile browser or a casino app.
While the game can be played in both portrait and landscape, the wide 5x3 reel setup is better suited to horizontal displays. Some adjustments to the portrait mode version, such as moving the bet adjuster and ‘Spin’ button, would greatly improve the user experience.
While Winstar runs perfectly fine in portrait mode, the display is quite cramped, which can make it harder to see what’s going on, particularly if you have a smaller phone as I do. The fact that only 15 symbols are on screen at any given time means it’s still a viable option, but I kept my phone oriented horizontally for the duration of the session.
Winstar Slot Bonus Features
Winstar doesn’t have any free spins features or bonus games. Its main stand-out qualities are the progressive jackpot pools, which offer the chance to secure one of three substantial prize pots.
Jackpot King
Jackpot King is a progressive jackpot network exclusive to Blueprint games.
The total pool is split into three pots: Regal Pot, Royal Pot, and Jackpot King. Any jackpot can be won at any point, regardless of your stake value.
Once the Regal Pot and Royal Pot reach £3,500 and £35,000 respectively, they will automatically be won by a player on a random spin. The Jackpot King does not have a fixed upper limit.
The initial seed value is provided by the operator, and a fraction of every bet made on the game will be added to the pools. If you land five Gold Reels, you’ll win the Jackpot King and it’ll reset to the Reserve Pot.
Mystery Symbols
Every Mystery symbol that lands on the reels will transform into a different symbol, which can form additional line wins.

Winstar is not a feature-heavy slot. While this won’t suit all players, others will appreciate its easy-to-follow gameplay. A jackpot can be won on any spin at any value, making the feature accessible to players on all budgets.
Winstar Slot Wagering Details
Return To Player (RTP) and volatility are the two main features that determine the size and frequency of a slot’s payouts. Winstar’s RTP is higher than most progressive jackpot slots, and its medium-volatility gameplay will suit the majority of players.
RTP and Volatility
RTP is the theoretical percentage of how much a slot is programmed to pay out over an extended period of play.
Winstar has an RTP of 96%. Fans of progressive jackpots will be aware that low RTPs are usually the price you pay for the chance to chase substantial network prize pools. Typically, progressive slots’ RTPs sit between 88% and 94%, which makes Winstar’s more impressive in comparison.
Volatility is the measure of how often a slot pays out. Highly volatile slots tend to pay out large sums of money infrequently, while players can expect smaller, more consistent payouts from low-volatility games. Winstar has a medium volatility rating, meaning that it likely won’t be as harsh on your bankroll as other progressive slots (which tend to be highly volatile).
Bet Sizes and Variance
Players can bet a minimum of £0.10 per spin. While some slots with adjustable paylines permit bets as low as £0.01, Winstar’s betting thresholds will suit most play styles and bankrolls.
The UKGC enforces age-based stake restrictions across all slots. Players aged 18–24 can bet a maximum of £2 per round, which is raised to £5 for those aged 25 and over. This will be the case, regardless of which UK casino you play Winstar at.
Jackpots and Best Wins
The maximum win limit in Winstar’s base game is 250,000x, which is considerably higher than average for UK slots.
Since Winstar is part of Blueprint’s Jackpot King network, players can win one of three progressive pots on any spin. There’s a more detailed breakdown of this mechanic in the ‘Bonus Features’ section of this Winstar slot review.
Bonus Frequency
Blueprint has not published the official bonus frequency of Winstar.
Testing the Winstar Slot with a £50 Bankroll
I set a hypothetical £50 budget on the Winstar slot demo that readers can access at the top of this page.
I set my spin value to £0.50, giving me a total of 100 spins. I experienced a total of 90 dead spins over the session. While this is surprisingly high for a medium-variance slot, it’s a reminder that things don’t always go as expected.
The average payout across my ten winning spins was £4.78, nearly 10x the value of my bet. I won £21 on my 83rd spin, which helped make up the amount I’d lost during the lengthy stretches of dead spins.
/fit-in/1920x1080/1784654763/winstar-slot-testing.png)
Thanks to a win of 42x my bet value towards the end of the session, I managed to only lose £2.25. My personal RTP for the session was 95.5%, slightly below the official figure.
Winstar Slot vs Similar Slot Games
Here’s how Winstar measures up against other space-themed slot games:
| Slot | Developer | RTP | Max win | Volatility | Theme |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rick and Morty Wubba Lubba Dub Dub | Blueprint | 96.14% | 50,000x | Medium | Space |
| Winstar | Blueprint | 96% | 250,000x | Medium | Space |
| Reactoonz | Play’n GO | 96.51% | 4,570x | High | Space |
Rick and Morty Wubba Lubba Dub Dub is another space-themed slot by Blueprint games. While the slots share the same volatility rating, the gameplay experience is wildly different thanks to its six bonus features and six reel modifiers. If you’re new to casino gaming or just looking for a straightforward, no-frills slot, I’d recommend Winstar.
Play’n GO’s Reactoonz is a cluster pays slot set on a spaceship. While it has a higher RTP than Winstar, its significantly lower maximum win and lack of jackpots make Winstar a better choice for thrill-seekers.
Do We Recommend Winstar Slot?
If you’re looking for a retro, stripped-back slot experience, absolutely. Winstar’s above-average RTP (for a progressive slot) and medium-variance gameplay will suit a variety of play styles and bankrolls. While some might prefer a game with more bonus features, I’d recommend Winstar to anyone looking for a traditional slot game or to those looking to explore progressive slots for the first time.
